Safety Policy

SAFETY POLICY    Updated November 2019

The Trustees and The Management Committee of Foxhole Village Green recognise their responsibilities for ensuring so far as is reasonably practicable the health, safety and welfare of its members, volunteers, users of and visitors to, the area known as Foxhole Village Green (herein after referred to as ‘the Green’).

The Trustees and The Management Committee attach the greatest importance to health & safety and consider our responsibility in implementing this policy to be equal to all other responsibilities of the organisation.

It is our policy to take all reasonably practicable precautions for the prevention of accidents and dangerous occurrences and for the creation of conditions which safeguard our members and the Green’s users and visitors.  To this end, we will allocate the necessary effort and resources.

Documented Records will be kept to demonstrate our commitment to safety.

We regard the standards set by the various relevant statutory provisions as the minimum standard which must be achieved and will endeavour to improve upon the standards so far as is reasonably practicable.

Children and Young People (under the age of 18 years)  are welcome to make use of the Green and its facilities.  We operate according to this policy to safeguard all users. However; because the Green is an unsupervised recreational open space we respectfully remind parents that child welfare remains their responsibility.  The Trustees and Management Committee of Foxhole Village Green cannot be held responsible for the safety, welfare and behaviour of children and young people during visits to the Green.  Children and young people must comply with all by-laws and safety rules.  During organised events they must also comply with any additional safety instructions given by the organiser.  Failure to do so may result in the incident being referred to the police or local authority in order to protect them or others.  We trust that children and young people will respect other users and local residents.

(Please note) The use of the word ‘parent’ should be taken to include ‘guardian’ or ‘responsible adult’ as appropriate.

Dogs  We welcome dogs with their responsible owners or walkers onto the Green to all areas except the cabins and the family area. Assistance dogs are welcome in the cabins and the family area whilst working.  It is our intention that all dogs are kept under control at all times and to this end, if it is necessary, they must be kept on a lead.  Owners or walkers of dogs which are deemed to be not under control may be asked to leave the Green.  Dog fouling, which if not removed, is an ongoing problem and is against the law. There is a penalty ranging from £100 to a maximum of £1000.

Machinery It is sometimes necessary to use various items of machinery on or around the Green.  If necessary and practicable we will cordon off certain areas to protect our visitors.  We specifically ask parents and dog owners to keep their charges away from areas where machinery is being operated whether cordoned off or not.  Whether in use by contractors or volunteers, we expect that machinery is used in accordance with good practice, its published safety instructions and other guidance.  Additionally; all machine operators shall wear high visibility vests/jackets and place warning signs in strategic locations when using machinery around the green.

Video and Photographic Evidence  To help us to eliminate anti-social behaviour we reserve the right to collect photographic and/or video evidence and to report such behaviour to the police and/or other bodies.

All Users and Visitors  We ask all users and visitors to assist us by:-

taking all reasonable care for the health and safety of themselves and others,

using the Green in accordance with the by-laws,

complying with all safety rules and instructions designed to ensure a safe and healthy environment,

reporting any hazard which cannot be controlled personally.  In any case, do NOT place yourself at risk.

Foxhole Village Green is an unsupervised recreational open space and we respectfully remind all users and visitors that the Trustees and Management Committee of Foxhole Village Green cannot be held responsible for the actions or negligence of other users or visitors.

This policy and the procedures, organisational arrangements and safety rules which support it will be reviewed regularly and updated and re-issued as necessary.

Authorised and issued by the Management Committee of Foxhole Village Green.
